One of our biggest needs – as individuals & as a church – is to have a big view of Jesus. Yet everything around us conspires to shrink Him into a pre 1960′s flannel-graph hippie pacifist. That’s hardly the picture we see in Revelation. He is a glorious king, present leader, victorious lamb, conquering warrior, perfect judge, & all-satisfying God.

Here are 3 things your can pray about:

1. For Sunday’s outdoor baptismal service at Gordon Park. (Actually with some peeps gone for labor day weekend we are going to have a second baptismal service in a few weeks, not great scheduling on our part;)

2. For a great interim indoor worship facility that is closer to being secured (big meeting next Tuesday night) & another building we may be able to purchase as a long-term facility. Both these buildings are right in our area!

3. For our planning in multiplying our 2 Dgroups into 4.

Knockoff. “An imitation, a fake.” And the better the knockoff, the harder to detect, sometimes until it is too late. In this 3rd message in our Spiritual Warfare series we examine how Satan employs knockoff teachers, “Christians”, & community to destroy non-Christians & mess with Christians. The video stopped after the first point but my notes for the second & third points are below if you can read them.

Please continue to pray as our building search continues. We have 3 good leads, one of which is a potential purchase. Also, in 2 Sunday’s we are having a baptismal service out in the open at Gordon Park – we are really pumped for this!

Middle-fingered open rebellion was the younger brother’s deal. Rebellion camouflaged in religion was the older brother’s MO. As we saw yesterday, God lavishly extends mercy to both forms of lostness. And we also saw from Luke 15 that those who champion conversion should be known for celebration. In this service Jim Essian shared how Paradox Church came to support Restore & Joey Rosado, a prospective intern for next year, shared how God may be calling him to church planting in Detroit. You can check out videos of them speaking at the bottom.

Thanks to all those who serve in parking lot security, set up/break down, & on the worship teams! Your faithful service means a lot & makes a huge difference! Please continue to pray we find an indoor Sunday AM worship location soon. We have a couple of good possibilities, but they still remain just that, possibilities.

Restore’s John R Dgroup is holding an outdoor worship time  & ice cream chill out Wednesday night at Marston &   John R, 48202. Please be in prayer we make many more connections with long term Detroiters through this Dgroup neighborhood event. And feel free to come on out!

Mike and I had the privilege along with other pastors within the EFCA to attend the Exponential Conference in April of 2012 in Orlando Florida.  Unfortunately Mickey Mouse did not show up to the conference which was a little disappointing to say the least.  But, we still had a great time and while we were there Mike was asked to do an interview along with Jon Peacock.  Here is the Interview:

Sunday we have two special guests with us at Restore. First, Jim Essian of Paradox Church (Fort Worth, TX) will share his vision for church planting & how his church came to support Restore. Jim is the one who did last summer’s interview, What’s a white dude the wrong side of 40 doing planting a church in Detroit? Second, Joey Rosado will share his desire to come next year (after he finishes his degree at Moody) from inner-city Chicago for an internship with Restore to explore church planting in Detroit. Joey is a great guy except for that Chicago team he roots for, but at least it’s not the White Sox. Sunday we will also finish our look at Luke 15 as we see how rebellion to God can be camouflaged in religion. You can watch last week’s message here. Oh yeah, joining the Deckers as they lead this Sunday’s worship will be two new Restore worship team members. If you can arrive by 10:30 to help set up that would be great!

We finally have a crash location for our worship service should it rain. Our primary plan continues to be prayer for no rain – and God has done just that every time this summer. Just in case He wants to grow our flexibility, however, we do have an alternate location 4 blocks south on Rosa Parks Blvd in a covered area at the Virginia Park Community Plaza. Even if it rains go to Gordon Park & we will direct people to the crash location. By the way, the forecast is for no rain!

Please continue to pray as we look for an indoor worship location for the fall. We have a promising lead for a great location and a second meeting next week.

Tonight at 7:30 (1258 Longfellow, 48202) we have the 3rd edition of M.M.A. You can read what Matt just posted on Facebook below. Also, the ladies will have their Triple FC (I think that means Females Fighting For Christ, watch out!) prayer meeting tonight. Email susanhanafee@gmail.com for details.

IF there are any guys who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of what MANHOOD is from a Biblical perspective, please feel free to join myself and a group of brothers for our MMA (Monthly Manhood Academy) tonight at 7:30.

Tonight’s topic will be “Perseverance” and how to move from the common mindset of “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” to the the freedom we have in the Gospel to persevere through difficulties in a way that honors GOD over ourselves!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND: Please inbox me so I can get you the address.

IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE THIS TOPIC “ALL FIGURED OUT” : Inbox me so I can pray for you.

See ya tonight or Sunday!

The streak is alive – once again the weather cleared just in time for our worship service at Gordon Park. Praise to Him who controls the winds & the rains! We had a sweet time as we looked at the younger brother’s open rebellion in Luke 15. Next Sunday we look at the older brother’s camouflaged rebellion. In this parable we see lostness comes in different forms and the Father’s lavish love for all kinds of sinners.

We are really grateful some longterm Detroiters are connecting with our Dgroups via these outdoor summer worship services. And thanks to the Restore peeps who serve in set up/breakdown, parking lot duty & security, & music!

Sunday afternoon my family was privileged to attend El Shaddai Outreach Ministry’s friends & family day with Pastor Tony & Wendi McDuffy – they have been a huge source of encouragement for us during our time in Detroit. Last week’s camp went very well & we look forward to holding more camps next summer.

Step into last weekend’s worship service at Gordon Park for a moment via this video put together by my friend Befkadu. Thanks Bef for surprising us with this, and doing such a great job, especially considering you had me to work with!

It’s been a great week with the BUMP & FBT mission teams in our inaugural week long sports camp/vbs – the first of many more to come! Friday evening we close with a cookout for parents. Please pray we have a great finish!

Sunday we will be back out at Gordon Park (Rosa Parks & Clairmount, 48206) for worship at 11AM. Thanks to the EFCA Great Lakes District we are purchasing a blower to help keep the park clean.

We have 4 or 5 baptisms to do & would love to do them at Gordon Park. If anyone knows of a portable baptismal, even a carnival dunk tank, please let us know. We are really hoping to do these baptism outdoors (I think there may even be biblical precedent for this;) at the park.

BUMP Kickoff

Whew! It has been a busy but sweet 72 hours with the BUMP & FBT mission teams. Last night’s spontaneous worship service with the teams & Restore Church at Gordon Park was off the chain as we read Scripture, prayed, & sang (including a impromptu rendition of “All I Have is Christ” below). A woman whose son is in jail gave a blood earnest exhortation to walk with Jesus that few of us will forget & others shared strong words of testimony. After that we enjoyed an ice-cream chill out under the streetlight.

In the mornings we (various Restore peeps) pour into the teams to equip us together to pour into the kids of our neighborhood in the afternoon camp. Please pray God will do amazing things in the 48202/48206 this week!
