Bluetree “God of this City” Story

I was gripped by how “God of this City” came into being.  Many people think that Chris Tomlin wrote the song, though he did a re-make and not the original composition.  Though on a side note, Chris Tomlin first heard the song when Bluetree sang it for him.

Bluetree was in Thailand doing some ministry work and was asked to sing in a bar.  This strip bar (brothel) owner found out they were a band and asked them to play at the Climax bar.  So they said sure, we’ll make Jesus’ name known here.  Aaron the lead singer was led by the Holy Spirit during the set and overcome with the realization of all the people listening who did not know Jesus and the words & music to “God of this City” was born.

The Holy Spirit reaches into the most unlikely places on earth and causes praise and worship to flow for our God’s honor and glory.

I love the people of Detroit, because they are God’s creation.  They were created in His image.  He breathed His own breath of life into each one of them.  Oh, how they need to know their creator and be reconciled to Him.  Who will tell them that there is a God of Detroit City?

You’re the God of this city, You’re the King of these people
You’re the Lord of this nation, You are
You’re the Light in this darkness, You’re the Hope to the hopeless
You’re the Peace to the restless, You are

There is no one like our God, there is no one like our God

For greater things have yet to come, and greater things are still to be done in this city
Greater things have yet to come, and greater things are still to be done in this city

Greater things have yet to come, and greater things are still to be done here
